Reports: 1sts & 2nds v Farnborough (A), Sat. 22 Oct. 2016

Farnborough 24-31 IW
What seems like a close game on the scoreboard was far from that for 65 minutes, as IW were in control for much of the game.
A constant threat with their backs, Henry Edwards’ pace saw him outstrip the home defenxce for the first try, Lewis Murray adding the kick. This was soon followed by a second when Owen Herbert received the ball some 40 metres out, shimmied and glided through, Murray again adding the kick.
Farnborough responded with a penalty, but the last statement of the first half saw Rouse Independent Finance Man of the Match Alex Smith on a bludgeoning run, swat aside the defence to score. IW led 19-3 at half-time.
The home side were first to register in the second half with a penalty. IW then had a sustained session in the home 22 and when ball went out wide, any of three Islanders could have scored, with Andy Rann touching down.
A further Farnborough penalty followed, but back came the visitors as James Webster rounded his winger to score his first try for the club, Murray adding the kick. At 31-9 up and the bonus point in the bag, a mixture of IW taking their foot off the pedal and a Farnborough revival made the last 15 minutes tense. Two home tries kept the game alive, with IW maintaining a seven point winning margin.

Farnborough II 59-31 Isle of Wight II
In an entertaining encounter, Farnborough’s depth of experience finally told against a young Island second string. In the first half the sides traded tries with Gary Warvill, George Huish and Dan Greaves all scoring for the visitors.
The second half sdaw the home side ramp up the pressure to pull away. However IW responded with a second try for Warvill and a try on debut for Evan Toms. With a man of the match performance for Jayme Bishop and a debut for Tom Kearney this young side showed an never say die attitude throughout.
