Locksheath Pumas 22 IWRFC 15

IWRFC came across a determined Locksheath side as the hosts played their first game in Hampshire One, after last year’s Hampshire Two triumph.

Starting strongly, the Island pressured the home side and Harry Dye added a penalty. Locksheath then added two penalties of their own.

As the home side came more into the game a break out by Brett Evans, in his own half, led to him scoring, with Dye adding the kick.

Locksheath added a further penalty before the break, narrowing IW’s lead to 10-9.

The Island were now dominating in the scrums and lineout, but were frustrated by penalties being given in spite of this dominance. With further lack of cohesion at the break down, Locksheath added a further penalty. Then, with 15 minutes to go Locksheath found a gap out wide and scored, adding the kick.

Back came a determined Island side and pressuring the  home side. After several waves of attacks, Alex Smith crashed over. However the home side added a late penalty.

With a home game against Bognor on Saturday, the Island will need to refocus their efforts. Rouse Intelligent Solutions Man of the Match Ryan Stewart was to the fore and IWRFC debuts were seen from Aaron James and Ryan Cunningham.
