Simmo hits a rare shot into the cabbage, while Andy is unnecessarily concerned.
The eighth annual IWRFC Cowes Week golf day was again a tremendous success this year. Reverting to its traditional slot on the Monday of Cowes Week, over 20 gentlemen of the club took on the ferocity of Cowes Golf Club. Most were defeated. However, once again the organiser of the day (and handicaps) took centre stage, as club president Paul ‘Cowboy’ Simpson reigned supreme, winning the prestigious afternoon individual competition by a single point from gallant Irish challenger Kieran ‘McIlroy’ Leahy.
In the morning, the golfers were split into teams for a fun scramble which was won by a team led by Dean ‘Shooter’ Jennings. The fun almost was curtailed however, when Steve ‘Headcase’ Lucy tried to intercept a pearler of a tee shot by Ollie ‘Happy Gilmore’ Boulter, only to discover that golf balls are harder than you think. The day concluded in style with a delicious barbecue at the Simpson household – thanks to Paul, Joni and Kaya for laying on a wonderful spread. Training for next year’s event, described as ‘the fifth major’, has already begun.
